Tips to score Band 8 (8.0 or 8.5) in IELTS Exam
IELTS is one such exam which opens the door for those who want to study or work in a foreign country. In this exam, the score band from 6 to 8.5 is considered good and appreciated by most of the Universities and foreign companies. But there are certain organizations and universities who ask for a band from 8 to 8.5 in IELTS in order to prove their ability to deal with complex and detailed arguments based courses such as law degrees. The students can have module score or “sub score” of 8.0 or 8.5, depending on whether they are meeting the minimum requirements.
The overall IELTS score of the students can also be classified as either 8.0 or 8.5, based on the average of each of the four modules, e.g. Listening Band 9 + Reading Band 9 + Writing Band 8 + Speaking Band 8 = IELTS 8.5.
In order to get Band 8 in Listening, total of 40 questions are asked where one should answer 35 questions correct and 37 correct questions for 8.5 band. There should be no spelling mistakes. One should not write more than the maximum number of words prescribed for each question.
In IELTS Reading section where 40 questions are asked there also one should answer 35 correct answers to score band 8 and 37 correct answers to score band 8.5 with no spelling mistakes. Word limit should be strictly followed to enhance the band as a protocol.

The students should answer both questions fully
- The students should skillfully use paragraphing to communicate several key ideas
- The students should naturally use less common vocabulary with an awareness of collocation (arrangements of words in a sentence).
- The students should provide an overview and explain key points in Task 1
- The students should indicate a clear position and develop it extensively in Task 2
- The students should produce error free complex sentences.
IELTS Speaking Band 8
- The students should speak fluently and at length on any given topic with no hesitation.
- The students should accurately use a range of linking words to develop ideas.
- The students should use higher level and idiomatic vocabulary to express precise meaning.
- The students should try to produce error-free simple and complex sentences.
- The students should try to use pronunciation and intonation patterns which are similar to the native speaker.
